For all the shock and amazement we all felt when Holly Holm knocked out Ronda Rousey on Saturday night, it really shouldn’t have been as big of a surprise as it was. Holly has been using her feet to mess people up through her entire career, and has kickboxing KOs on her record going all the way back to 2002. But why talk about her thunderous feet when we can watch them in action?
Mark Cuban’s AXS TV is where Holly Holm effectively fought through the early days of her mixed-martial-arts career, with all of her Legacy FC fights airing on that channel. And now, they’ve compiled a nice little video showing off some of Holm’s greatest hits. A couple of my personal favorites:
And then of course the one the world is still talking about: her headkick knockout of Ronda Rousey.
It’s pretty amazing that Holly Holm was even willing to lift her foot off the mat given Rousey’s reputation as a takedown artist. I guarantee if that kick hadn’t knocked Ronda out and Holm got taken down soon after, people would be lamenting her terrible decision / gameplan that involved throwing kicks at an Olympic level judoka. Instead, Holm caught Rousey right between the neck and the jaw and put her out, and it’s Ronda getting all the flack. Just the way the MMA cookie crumbles.
