RELATED: A detailed breakdown of how Holm pulled off the upset.
“Rowdy” Ronda Rousey and Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm both entered the UFC 193 main event undefeated. Someone’s 0 would have to go with the bantamweight title on the line. Consensus opinion, both from the expert panel of Uproxx Sports fight pickers and odds makers alike was that Rousey would have no trouble with Holm.
That wasn’t the case in the slightest, as Holm used effective lateral movement, a solid jab, and oblique kicks to prevent Rousey from closing the distance and clinching. Even when Rousey did manage to clinch, Holm disengaged without putting herself in danger. Ronda did manage to get the fight to the mat, but couldn’t latch onto her patented armbar. Holm slithered free, and in the waning seconds of the first round, Holly even took down Ronda, just for the heck of it.

Past the second round for the second time in her career, and having clearly and definitively lost the first, despite her coach telling her otherwise, Ronda looked desperate. She came out throwing wildly, looking for either the big punch to put Holm down, or to just get close enough for clinch work. That never happened, as Holm landed a huge head kick about a minute into the second, dropping Rousey. Holm swarmed with punches, and we now have a NEW bantamweight champion!
Congrats on the win, Holly!
