The Nick Young/D’Angelo Russell video story has blown over — for now, anyway. Whether the two are on speaking terms again after Russell secretly video taped Young saying he had cheated on his fiancé, rapper Iggy Azalea, isn’t all that clear. It does not, however, sound promising since Young was deactivated from the Lakers for not “mentally” being with the team.
The NBA side of the story is that Russell is up a certain creek without a paddle because he singlehandedly fractured the trust and friendship of a teammate. That translates into locker room and on-court chemistry. For that, Russell has taken considerable heat — and rightly so.
The personal side of the story — and, really, it’s the side that’s more important — is that Young boasted about violating the terms of his relationship with his wife-to-be without her knowing. While technically that’s not anybody’s business but his and Iggy’s, the spotlight for both is so big that it became public quickly. That makes a personal matter such as this even more difficult. Understandably, Iggy’s not cool with it.
“I’m not cool with it. You will have half a penis,” Azalea said in an interview on 94.1 in Tampa. “I already said, ‘One more video, one more thing, you will lose a quarter of your meat.’ Let me get some real evidence and you’re going to lose half an inch.”
That’s the money quote, but Azalea also spoke to the other pressing issue, which begins and ends with someone allegedly cheating.
“Screw guy code, I’m not really concerned about guy code,” she said. “How about what this person said in the video. That’s what I care about sitting at home, obviously. I don’t really care about D’Angelo Russell.”
