We’re going to go out on a limb here and say this was a bit of an overreaction.
During a match between Union Perene and Copa Peru, a Perene goalkeeper was shown a yellow card by the referee. In response, said goalkeeper decided the best course of action was to run up behind the referee and karate kick him — cleats first — right in the spine. For all the insane things sports have compelled people to do, this is still stunning.
Even Andy Bernard, who once punched a hole in the drywall of Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton office because he couldn’t find his cell phone, thought this was uncalled for.
