I’ve never been to a practice with Rick Renteria, and I ain’t got no crystal ball. But the Cubs have millions of dollars and it seems they’re spending it all.
It’s been less than a year since the Cubs signed Rick Renteria to a three-year deal to be their manager. But according to reports, it’s looking more and more likely that Renteria is on his way out with former Rays manager Joe Maddon on his way in.

The timing of the move is interesting considering Renteria is only 1 year through a 3 year contract he signed in November of 2013. At the time of the signing, Cubs President Theo Epstein had nothing but great things to say.
“You can’t find anyone in this game to say a bad word or even a neutral word about Rick Renteria. He really excelled in the entire process. We took our time. We wanted to be thorough and had the benefit of being so. It was clear to us that Rick was the right man for the job.”
If these reports are to be believed, it seems Renteria was only the “right man for the job” because Joe Maddon was not yet available.
