It seems like most hockey fights end the same way these days, at least at the NHL level. A couple of guys will drop the gloves, tug on each other’s jersey for a little bit, exchange a few heavy punches that barely connect, then grapple until refs break it up and send the men off to the box as fans try to decide who won.
But every once in a while you get a total one-sided butt whoopin’.
That’s what Stars fans were treated to on Saturday night when Jamie Oleksiak dropped the gloves and proceeded to lay an absolute beating on Nicolas Deslauriers of the Buffalo Sabres. You’ve got to give credit to Deslauriers (6’1, 187 lbs) for going toe-to-toe with the much bigger Oleksiak (6’7, 250 lbs) but, man, he shouldn’t have done that.
The Dallas defenseman walloped poor Deslauriers over and over and over again until he made his victim’s head bleed like he was playing NHL 94. Oleksiak’s powerful display was so brutally impressive that all his teammates on the Stars bench could do was laugh. Deslauriers is pretty fortunate he was able to skate away from the fight under his own power, but I think it’s probably safe to assume that he won’t be dropping the gloves with Oleksiak anytime again soon.
