Washington Capitals winger Jason Chimera scored his 18th goal of the year on Sunday night in Pittsburgh, and it was probably the luckiest of the bunch this season. It certainly wasn’t the prettiest, as it bounced off of Chimera’s head before finding the back of the net.
The amusing goal came early in the second period of the Caps-Pens matchup at CONSOL Energy Center when Penguins netminder Marc-Andre Fleury tried attempted to poke away a loose puck, but instead sent it straight off of Chimera’s helmet and into his own open net. Although it was a fortunate break for Chimera and the Caps, the winger put himself in position to get such a break by hustling past two Pens defenders in pursuit of the puck.
Sometimes hustle can only take you so far, then you just have to let the Hockey Gods handle the rest.
