Watch John McEnroe Perform Nirvana’s ‘Territorial Pissings’ For A Bunch Of Rich People In The Hamptons

In the words of John McEnroe himself, “You cannot be serious!” Usually, athletes and music don’t mix well together. Whether it’s an athlete’s career outside of sports, or, like in this case, a former athlete’s cover band. Whatever the case is, it doesn’t change anything about athletes and music not mixing well together.

On Saturday night in Amagansett, N.Y., tennis legend John McEnroe performed Nirvana’s “Territorial Pissings” with his wife and daughter. The crowd at the show included Harvey Weinstein and Lorne Michaels. (Hopefully Lorne liked it and we’ll be seeing McEnroe as a musical guest for the upcoming season of SNL!)

McEnroe’s passion for music is nothing new. He has performed Green Day’s “Basket Case” with the New York Rangers’ Henrik Lundqvist, was tortured by Rage Against the Machine bassist Tim Commerford in a music video, and a bar owner in Manhattan, who hosted McEnroe’s retirement party, has said that the tennis star “can’t sing for his life.”

John only performed on that one song, while his wife, an actual singer-songwriter who was a part of ’80s band Scandal, took over the majority of the night’s songs. Sure, McEnroe may have been a bit pitchy, and the keyboard player looked incredibly bored the entire time, but all that matters is that he had fun. Right?
