All-Star Games typically don’t mean a whole lot, and their MVP awards mean even less, but this year’s NHL All-Star Game was an exception. The game’s most unlikely All-Star, John Scott, had a bizarre roller coaster ride to Nashville, but I’m willing to bet he found it all worth it given how his weekend went.
Not only was Scott one of the biggest fan favorites, earning loud ovations every time he was introduced or touched the puck, but he also had himself an impressive showing on the ice. He scored two goals while captaining the Pacific Division 3-on-3 squad, which ended up winning both of their games, including the ASG final.
But the cherry on top was the enforcer winning the All-Star MVP award and, against all odds, actually DESERVING it. Scott’s teammates loved every second of it. (And why shouldn’t they…their ASG won them $1 million collectively.)
All-Star Games, in any sport, are typically pretty forgettable, but this year’s was anything but for the NHL, who – amazingly – tried their damn hardest to keep Scott out of the event altogether. I’m willing to bet they’re quite glad that the fans (and Scott) ultimately came away victorious in that battle.
NHL says that the overwhelming flood of #VoteMVPScott was the reason he won. Couldn't deny he had most support, despite not being an option.
