The premature and tragic death of Jose Fernandez will have far-reaching effects in the baseball world and, in the aftermath, players and other personnel from various teams and backgrounds have weighed in to express their condolences for the fallen Miami Marlins pitcher.
For Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig and New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes (seen above), who both arrived in the United States from Cuba in similar fashion to Fernandez, the passing was particularly painful. Both players were captured prior to playing games on Sunday afternoon hanging up Fernandez’s jersey in their dugouts.

Elsewhere in baseball, reigning NL MVP Bryce Harper inscribed “JF16” on the hat that he is wearing for Sunday’s game, as did his teammate Gio Gonzalez.

A member of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who is yet to be named, also recognized Fernandez in a unique way when it comes to the pitching mound.

Tributes and recognition for Fernandez will almost certainly continue in the coming days. But one thing is certain: Major League Baseball and all parties involved mourn the unfortunate and tragic passing of one of the game’s brightest stars.
