People say all sorts of crazy things in the heat of sports battle. Sometimes a player will make a comment about one’s mom or one’s wife. Sometimes there are naughty words uttered, like “jerk” and “damn.” The Cubs’ Kyle Schwarber found a new level of this phenomenon during Game 2 of the World Series on Wednesday night.
After an RBI single, Schwarber looks to his dugout, points to his junk with two fingers and requests that his teammates, “Suck my d*ck.” The audio isn’t perfect and maybe he says something else, like “Struck my stick,” because the ball hit his bat, or stick, and he was excited about this contact.
But he almost definitely said, “Suck my d*ck.”
It’s weird on three levels.
1. It’s the World Series. They are cameras and microphones everywhere. Heck, the umpire might have a microphone on his actual d*ck. You don’t want to censor yourself but you may want to think of new celebration catchphrases, like “Cool I got a hit.”
2. This is the sort of thing you yell at the opponent, not your teammates.
3. Not for nothing, but do you really think you deserve oral favors from 20-plus people for a single off Trevor Bauer, a dude with an open wound on his pitching hand? Roberto Perez of the Indians hit two home runs in Game 1 and he was content with slapping five, which isn’t innuendo.
After losing Game 1, the Cubs won Game 2, proving they are not ready to go down just yet.
