Today, Matt Harvey made his first big-league start since undergoing Tommy John surgery in the fall of 2013, and he was spectacular. He was in Washington mowing down the division favorite Nationals (who are admittedly very injured right now). Check out this goodness:

Twitter’s reaction to Matt Harvey was a combination of normal sports enthusiasm and the kind of declarations of love one sees after a famous person dies. Observe:

Even though Matt Harvey is the most universally adored Met since vintage Jose Reyes, he’s still a Met, and when a Met is trending, someone’s always gotta remind everyone that the Mets are the Mets:
The #Mets will pay Matt Harvey $614,125 this season. They will pay Bobby Bonilla $1,193,248 on July 1 this #MLB season,

Harvey threw 91 pitches (he’s on an understandable pitch count of around 90 for the near future) and completed 6 shutout innings, striking out 9 batters.
Matt Harvey’s back for the time being. Long live Matt Harvey.
