The 1993 Phillies were one of the most entertaining baseball teams of the past few decades. They were among the best teams in the league that year, winning the National League pennant before losing in heartbreaking fashion to the Blue Jays on a game-winning home run by Joe Carter in Game 6 of the World Series. But in addition to being a great team, their roster was full of colorful characters, many of whom would go on to futures in broadcasting following their playing careers.
Two of the those characters were Mitch Williams and Lenny Dykstra. They’ve both had a run of tough luck recently, with Dykstra spending time in jail for bankruptcy fraud and Williams being let go from his job at MLB Network after reports surfaced of his odd behavior as coach of a youth baseball team. But both men were in attendance at a sports roast recently, which was supposed to celebrate that great Phillies team from 22 years ago and their wonderful run through the playoffs.
Instead, it turned into a forum for both Williams and Dykstra to show the world they continue to hate each other. It’s wonderfully awkward.
