Nate Diaz has a different swagger to him since he defeated Conor McGregor last March. Maybe it’s the fact that, as McGregor said, he’s a millionaire now. Maybe it’s because he’s finally getting the recognition he deserves as a needle mover. Either way, 2016 Nate is a Nate anyone can get along with, except for McGregor, of course.
In this interview that seems to touch on just about everything, from Nate’s early days as a fighter “thinking he was rich,” to his interactions with Jake Shields, Gilbert Melendez, and the Skrap Pack, the younger Diaz opens up in ways we’ve never seen before. We learned a lot about the ninja from the 209. Like, if he’s a cat or dog guy (at the 8:13 mark).
“I like a dog. I got an English bulldog. He’s the coolest little dude in the world. He’ll fight anybody but I don’t think he’ll beat anybody…But he’ll fight anybody.”
Diaz will throw up double middle fingers while covered in his own blood and the blood of his foe, but he’ll also dress up his dog for the Fourth of July. This guy has layers.
The interviewer then transitions to discussing his dogs, and Nate perked right up. Asking him questions about what kind of dogs he has and in general enjoying the conversation.
Who knew Nate could be such a sweetheart when it comes to man’s best friend. I’m surprised, motherf*cker.
