So… Is Sage Northcutt made of magic or something? The UFC’s most gushed over rising star has been making major bank (more on that later) as MMA’s hunk/phenom of the moment, and now we have a timely reminder that the 19-year-old fighter was once in an ad for toy lightsabers.
The commercial popped up on Sage’s Twitter feed with the professional beat-him-up-er noting that it was filmed all the way back in the simpler days of 2011. There’s no celebratory front flip at the end of the ad, but it’s still worth a gander anyway. Gawk away and wonder why you couldn’t have been in a Star Wars Ultimate FX Lightsaber TV spot when you were 15.

The mystique around Sage and his place in mixed martial arts has also been reflected in his most recent payday. MMA Fighting reports that Sage’s second UFC appearance was a very lucrative one with the Petroleum Engineering student scoring $80,000 for his second round submission victory over Cody Pfister at last week’s UFC Fight Night event. Provided you don’t factor in the $50,000 bonuses earned by Rose Namajunas and Michael Chiesa, Sage’s payday was the most impressive of the bunch. That sort of thing doesn’t come around too often for fighters in their second Octagon-based bout, but scenarios can be a bit different when you’re the next big thing.
If Northcutt can keep this up, he might be in line for a proper functioning lightsaber by the end of 2016. Heck, if that happens he could probably just replace the military.
