The New York Red Bulls and New York City FC kicked off Sunday evening to renew their rivalry in what has become known as the New York Derby. Because this is the last time these two rivals will face each other during the regular season, things got a little hostile in the area outside of the Red Bulls’ stadium in Harrison, New Jersey. Rob Harris of the Associated Press posted a video of some heated fans as he was heading into the stadium. Pay special attention to the hero who grabbed a sandwich board and used it as a weapon:

Harris also added that the crowd “turned violent” an hour after posting the original video of the crowd.

According to same video he posted on his Facebook page, the incident happened outside of a Newark subway station.
The Red Bulls have won both of the two previous meetings, and they headed into the match in second place in the Eastern Conference, with NYCFC currently four points out of sixth place.
