Late in the third period of Thursday night’s Canadiens-Sabres game in Montreal, PK Subban was involved in a frightening collision with a teammate that ultimately resulted in the defenseman leaving the game on a stretcher.
After delivering a hit in the corner, Subban fell to his knees and his momentum carried him head-first into the backside of fellow Canadien Alexei Emelin. As he slid into Emelin from behind, Subban’s head twisted awkwardly the collision left him in an obvious amount of pain, as he immediately ripped off his helmet and stayed down on the ice writhing until trainers came to his aid.
Montreal’s medical staff stabilized Subban, who had movement in his arms and fingers and was talking as he left the ice. Official word was passed down that he suffered a neck injury and was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.
P.K. Subban suffered a neck injury and was taken to hospital for further testing. He has normal movement in extremities.

The 26-year-old’s teammates were clearly shaken by the scene; not only is Subban one of the league’s most elite defensemen, he’s also an alternate captain for the Habs and a well-respected personality around the league.
The Canadiens are expected to give updates on his status as information become available, but hopefully it’s nothing serious.
Subban manages a thumbs up for the crowd.
Hopefully he's ok. Scary moment. pic.twitter.com/ULsa6s0oXL
