Right around now is when someone on the internet will tell local media to “leave Johnny Manziel alone.” Shoot, it might even be us.
Manziel’s days as a Cleveland Brown may be limited, and for good reason. The quarterback, who was supposed to undergo concussion protocol, was a no-show for Sunday’s game against the Steelers. Reportedly, that’s because Manziel, under the alias “Billy,” was partying it up incognito in Las Vegas instead.
Demanding answers and overall accountability for this — though it should be noted these are nothing more than rumors at the moment — is understandable. The Browns drafted Manziel in the first round with the intention of making him the face of the franchise. Even though those intentions are no longer on the table, Manziel is going to have to at least issue a statement at some point in the near future.
However, stalking Manziel outside his home to demand these answers is taking it a bit far. Yet, that’s exactly what reporters for two Cleveland-based television stations did. Below is a video from WEWS-TV:
Additionally, here are the tweets from the WEWS reporter on the scene at Manziel’s home:

And from Dani Carlson of the CBS affiliate WOIO:
Friend of Johnny's emerges from QB's home. Says he's house and dog sitting. Video on @cleveland19news at 6

It appears 2 people left Manziels home in SUV. Friend we spoke with before & unidentified driver who gave me middle finger as he drove away

These reporters are just doing their jobs, which means doing what someone likely told them to do. Still, they’re going to get a ton of backlash for visiting Manziel at his home over something that, in the grand scheme of things, isn’t that important. The Browns and Manziel haven’t been on the same page in a while and he supposedly has the organization at their wits end. You don’t need to visit his house to know that.
