Rob Konrad, who played for the Miami Dolphins from 1999-2004, was fishing alone off the southern coast of Florida Wednesday night when he fell off his boat. According to local news reports, Konrad swam nine miles in the middle of the night before finally coming ashore in Palm Beach at around 4:30 am. All told, he was in the water for almost 10 hours. He was taken to the hospital and treated for hypothermia.

It appears Konrad had the boat on auto-pilot, which is why he wasn’t able to hop back on.
According to the Coast Guard, they searched for Konrad after he didn’t return from a fishing trip.
Konrad told them he was idling in his fishing boat, caught a fish, and while trying to land it, fell off the boat.
The boat kept going and Konrad started swimming in the cold, dark ocean.
Konrad is safe and sound now, recovering in his Boynton Beach home. He has yet to release a statement about his ordeal, the details of which, I’m utterly fascinated to hear.
