Ronda Rousey’s Boxing Ambitions Have Been Met With Scorn By Former Champs

Ronda Rousey recently revealed her desire to Bo Jackson it several times over by winning championships in mixed martial arts, judo, jiu jitsu, and pro wrestling. That’d be like the athlete equivalent of pulling an EGOT, and if anyone can do it, Rousey can. But some female boxers haven’t been too thrilled with the UFC women’s bantamweight champ’s cocky attitude when it comes to waltzing into their sport and taking all the belts.

Olympic boxing sensation Claressa Shields has an impressive 66-1 record and won middleweight gold at the 2012 Olympics in London when she was only 17. She’s currently whupping everyone she faces as she qualifies for the 2016 Rio Olympics … not that anyone is asking her about that. All they’re asking about is Ronda Rousey, and by the looks of her Facebook, Shields is sick of it.

And here’s six-time world champion Layla McCarter on the Brutally Honest podcast:

“Any day she [Rousey] wanted to have a boxing lesson I’d give her one,” McCarter stated. “This is what I do for a living, I’m not going to go challenge her in MMA, she’d kick my butt. She’d grab my arm and break it. So I know my limitations, and I know what I’m good at, and boxing is my sport. If she’d ever like to cross over, which would be a dumb thing for her to do, but if she ever did, I would knock her out. Plain and simple.”

So, it looks like there’s no shortage of people willing to welcome Rousey into boxing. But as far as many of the women are concerned, you better shut up about it until she actually makes a move from the cage to the ring.
