Rose Namajunas put on one hell of a performance at UFC on FOX 24 from Kansas City, Missouri, defeating the highly regarded Michelle ‘The Karate Hottie’ Waterson via rear naked choke in the second round. Many thought this fight would determine the next opponent for dominant women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk after she defends her belt against Jessica Andrade at UFC 211, and Namajunas let it be known following her win that she wanted whoever walked away from that fight in May.
“I feel like I can go all the way to the belt, and hold it for a while,” Namajunas said during her victory interview. “So Joanna or whoever’s gonna win that fight, I’m coming for you. Be careful!”
You can consider UFC president Dana White on board with that idea.
“She looked amazing tonight,” he said backstage in Kansas City. “She put on the performance of a lifetime. Lot of hype behind the ‘Karate Hottie’ after her last victory over Paige VanZant and [Rose] came out and did what she had to do to solidify herself. She called out whoever wins the title next time, so I think she’s ready.”
With Jedrzejczyk and Andrade fighting on May 11th, that means it could be a while before that title shot becomes available. Would Namajunas be interested in another fight beforehand or will she wait until the belt is on the line?
“There’s no need to get too specific just right this second,” she said at the post event press conference. “But I changed all my email and computer passwords to ‘Andnew2017’ so that’s kinda just what I have in mind, that general goal. So sometime before the year is over with but I don’t want to put no specific stamp on it just yet.”
Don’t rush off to try and hack into her Facebook or Twitter account, though.
“I didn’t change all my passwords,” Rose finished with a laugh. “But almost all of em.”
