On Sunday, as WrestleMania 31 featured a metric ton of interference during Sting vs. Triple H, a Russian mixed martial arts contest was also devolving into an insane brawl. In the main-event of ProFC 57, Middleweight Champion Shamil Abdulkhalikov took on Mikhail Kolobegov in what was scheduled to be a three-round fight. Apparently, some judging incompetence forced a fourth round.
In the fourth, Kolobegov threw a flying knee, knocking out Abdulkhalikov. As Mikhail celebrated, Shamil’s corner swarmed the cage, including one guy leaping onto Mikhail, while another man threw knees at his head. During the brawl, Shamil was still unconscious on the canvas, and he’s pretty fortunate that he didn’t get trampled.
Officials managed to separate people enough to stop more punches from being thrown. It was announced that Kolobegov and Abdulkhalikov would fight again, but a date hasn’t been set. Maybe the next bout needs to have a top on the cage to prevent run-ins.
