After a 5-11 season that saw countless off-field and on-field team embarrassments such as Lance Briggs missing practice to fly cross-country to open a BBQ restaurant, back-to-back blowout losses in which they became only the 2nd team in NFL history to give up over 50 points in back-to-back games, their OC breaking down in tears while admitting he bad-mouthed Jay Cutler to the media, super fan Mike Ditka giving up on watching them, their kicker saying he misses the old “Bears way” (whatever that is), and Jay Cutler being benched for Jimmy Clausen, Chicago Bears chairman George McCaskey has finally, mercifully, ended this parade of nonsense by firing GM Phil Emery and head coach Marc Trestman.

Emery lasted three seasons as Bears GM, but missteps along the way that included giving Cutler a seven-year, $126.7 million contract extension with $54 million guaranteed, as well as hiring Trestman, were perhaps the main reasons for his undoing. As for Trestman, he replaced Lovie Smith as head coach of the Bears following the 2012 season that saw them miss the playoffs despite a 10-6 record. He only made it half-way through his four-year contract, meaning the Bears will pay for two head coaches the next two seasons.
Trestman ends his two-year run as coach with a 13-19 record overall.
