You may not know this, but Hafþór Júlíus “Thor” Björnsson (who you can see in the above video) and I have a lot in common. We both enjoy the television program Game of Thrones — he plays the character The Mountain, while I watch the TV that has the show — and we are both bodybuilders with terrific physiques.
But it doesn’t stop there.
As you can see and hear, The Mountain gets jacked to the voice of the Grammy-winning Adele. You probably assumed he was lifting weights to some sort of Scandinavian death metal, but he likes to be at peace when sculpting his body. You can see the music flowing through him as he prepares to deadlift all that weight. It’s quite inspiring.
I’m the same way. When I’m cranking out 10 sets of 85 pounds on the flat bench, I need to have that Michelle Branch “A Thousand Miles” percolating in my ears. You think the 15-pound curls I’m grinding out in front of that mirror don’t happen without a little Carly Rae Jepsen pumping in the room somewhere? Bodies like mine and The Mountain’s don’t happen by accident — it’s years of hard work coupled with the type of music that provides a bigger boost than any steroid could.
