What’s up, fight fans? We’ve got two solid events this weekend, so let’s figure out what’s going on and how we can watch the action.
FRIDAY
Bellator is live and back in the U.S. with a fun card. The prelims don’t have much in star power, but there’s probably going to be a few interesting fights, starting at 6:45 p.m. ET online at both the Bellator and Spike websites.
The main card, live on Spike TV, starts at 9 p.m. ET. The top three bouts look pretty interesting. Daniel Weichel and Emmanuel Sanchez will clash in featherweight action, then in the co-main event, local legend David “The Caveman” Rickels takes on former UFC star Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard in lightweight action. The main event is a bantamweight battle between undefeated Darrion Caldwell and tiny, adorable Joe Taimanglo. The winner is next in line for a title shot against Eduardo Dantas. Should be a good night of fights!
SATURDAY
Another Saturday, another UFC event. Early prelims begin at 4 p.m. ET on Fight Pass. There’s some decent opening bouts, including a pair of welterweight bouts, as Hector Urbina takes on George Sullivan and Alex Oliveira faces James Moontasri.
The prelims roll on to Fox at 6 p.m. ET. Darren Elkins faces Godofredo Pepey in featherweight action, and top 15 bantamweights Frankie Saenz and Eddie Wineland square off in the final preliminary bout.
The main card is also on Fox, beginning at 8 p.m. ET. It’s a four-bout card, and the co-main and main events should both be very solid. Gilbert Melendez returns to the cage to face Edson Barboza in lightweight action, with the winner getting added to the hybrid logjam and sharktank that is the top of the division.
The main event is a bantamweight bout between former champ Holly Holm and Valentina Shevchenko. A win by Holm puts her right back into title contention, while Shevchenko probably needs one more bout as a title eliminator. Regardless of the outcome, this fight will have a lot of impact on the bantamweight title scene.
Please join us for a fun and lively discussion of both nights of fights.
