France took on England in Six Nations rugby union action over the weekend, and during the first half, English lock Courtney Lawes trucked French fly half Jules Plisson right as Plisson passed the ball. The referee’s initial call was that the hit was legal because Lawes began his approach while Pilsson was still in possession.
Now, French rugby officials have petitioned the commissioner of the Six Nations to cite Lawes for an illegal hit, claiming that Lawes did not fully wrap up Plisson upon contact.
I’m no expert, but it’s kind of hard for a guy who’s 6-foot-7, 260 pounds to fully wrap up a guy who’s 6-foot, 200 pounds when running into him at full-speed a millisecond after the initial impact.
Basically, France is mad and wants Lawes to be punished for tackling too well.
