We all know that outside linebacker James Harrison has been in the NFL for a very long time — he’s entering his 13th season — 12th with the Pittsburgh Steelers — this fall. Well, apparently, there is one member of the Steelers who thought that Harrison is, in fact, retired.
Steelers offensive lineman Ramon Foster recently did an interview with a local CBS Pittsburgh radio station, 93.7 The Fan. Foster was asked about how the younger members of the team have responded to Harrison’s presence. Foster actually admitted that there was a young guy who thought Harrison had already retired.
“It was a young guy,” Foster said. “I won’t say who it was… he actually thought James was retired, and he was just here helping out. So everything that he’s seen him do in the weight room, he’s got to realize that that’s what he’s about to go through. So he was like, ‘Man, I thought that dude was retired and helping out!’ I was like, ‘No, he’ll be out here real soon,’ and he’s like, ‘Oh.’ ”
It’s true — Harrison has done some ridiculous things in the weight room this offseason. For instance, here’s video of him bench pressing an insane 505 pounds. He also ran sprints in 136-degree heat, according to CBS Sports. To be fair to whoever thought he was retired, he was retired for two weeks after his 2013 season with Cincinnati — shortly after he was picked up by the Steelers. I don’t think any retired veterans are doing workouts like the ones Harrison is doing, though.
