“Big Fat Gypsy Weddings” — a docu-series that details the lives of Romany Gypsies and Irish Travellers — was a huge hit in the United Kingdom, and now it’s coming to America on… wait for it… waaaaaaaaait… TLC. Of course TLC. The series will start its American run in late May, and then TLC will follow that up with an American version. Of course an American version.
Much of the show focused on the groups’ elaborate ceremonies, especially weddings, and on the differences between the sexes in this closed society, of which little is known in the outside world…
TLC will also air a new, American version of “Big Fat Gypsy Weddings,” set to premiere early next year and currently casting in the Southeast. It may or may not keep the same title. [NY Post]
I suggest “America’s Next Top Carnie Wedding.” Who knows, maybe those gypsies have huge families with, like, eight or ten kids. Boom, spin-off! Whoever runs TLC has the easiest job in America. “Now go out there and find me some goddamn mole-people!”
