Having decided that Boy Meets World ended too ambiguously, unlike Full House and Family Matters, which concluded with the right amount of horse-falling-off and Urkel dying (right?) schadenfreude, the TV overlords in charge of resurrecting things that aren’t worth resurrecting (blame them for Knight Rider with Justin Bruening) are discussing a new Boy Meets World series for the Disney Channel, starring Cory and Topanga’s kid.
Disney Channel is in early stages of development on a new original television series centered on the daughter of golden couple Cory and Topanga, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Casting is under way on the project from Boy Meets World executive producer Michael Jacobs. There is no official word on whether Savage or Fishel, who portrayed Cory and Topanga, respectively, would return to reprise their roles should the follow-up make it to the pilot or series stage. (Via)
If you’ll allow for a brief “oh, how I’ve wasted my life” history lesson: as far as I can recall, the only time Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) having a child together was ever mentioned was in season seven’s “Seven the Hard Way,” a flash-forward episode about an escalating prank war (yeah…), and how it would affect everyone’s relationships in the future. In said future, Topanga, now stuck in a loveless marriage with Cory, talks about their daughter, Beverly Glen, at Mr. Feeny’s retirement party, but she’s never seen. I bring this up to say: there’s about a million percent chance the new series is going to be called Girl Meets World.
