Until the day Joel McHale is banned from TV and the Internet for being too shirtless or Dan Harmon dies, whichever comes first, I expect Community to keep returning from the dead, like The Eagles on their never-ending reunion tours. There are as many episodes (110) as Dean costume changes, despite low ratings, cast exoduses, and Grand Poobah Harmon being fired, but according to McHale, the show’s most recent season, which aired on Yahoo, was its last.
Is it getting another season on Yahoo?
No. They wanted to. But all of our contracts were up after six years. All the actors on the show, almost without exception — their stock has risen significantly and it’s out of the pay rate that is affordable to make the show. So you’re not going to be able to get Alison Brie or Gillian Jacobs at a normal television salary anymore. There is just not enough money to be able to pay for the show. (Via)
Jacobs is headlining Judd Apatow’s upcoming Netflix comedy with Paul Rust, while Brie is beginning to star in her own movies, not play the friendly sister or murder victim. They’re busy, as is Dr. Ken star Ken Jeong, but not too busy for a movie, right?
I think what has to happen is that Dan needs to write the script. It’s a tall order for someone. “Go write a brilliant movie script on a beloved show that you’ve been writing for six years. Go! Just go ahead and do that!” I don’t think that is something that’s like, “Let me just have a long weekend.” The cast would do it. We would all do it. (Via)
Should they do it?
Then it’s settled.
