From HBO defending its portrayal of violence against women to Michael Schur’s insistence that Parks and Recreation‘s Leslie Knope “would be out campaigning like a mofo” for Hillary Clinton, this summer’s Television Critics Association is everything. Especially since ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey revealed that, were she to get her way, Star Wars might make the jump to broadcast television. And not just another for-kids-and-adults cartoon like The Clone Wars or Rebels (which are both very good), but something entirely new.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the discussion came about when someone asked Dungey if there were any Disney-owned properties she wanted to bring to television. The answer, obviously, was Star Wars:
“Ohh, as a fan, I would absolutely love to say ‘yes,'” she said. “The conversations with Lucas, we have had conversations with them and will continue to have conversations with them. I think it would be wonderful if we could find a way to extend that brand into our programming.”
Aside from Dungey’s offhand comment, however, she provided no details about her “conversations” with LucasFilm. In other words, the small possibility of a prime-time Star Wars television series is just that… a small possibility. As Variety‘s Daniel Holloway later put it:

Since The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams’ other stellar property, Star Trek, is getting another chance on the small screen, why not Star Wars? Hell, why not give Yak Face… erm, “Saelt-Marae” his due?
