I’m sure I could sit here and type out the various plot developments from How I Met Your Mother that led to my beloved Boyz II Men showing up last night to sing a song about slapping people in the face. It wouldn’t even be that hard. Most of it is right here. But, like, why would I do that? Either you watch the show and you understand all the twists and turns in its running Slapsgiving bit (in which case my brief summary would be skimmed over at best and picked apart for potential inaccuracies at worst), or you don’t. And if you don’t, I assure you, it is much more satisfying to take “Boyz II Men showed up on a popular sitcom and sang a song about slapping Neil Patrick Harris” on its face, completely devoid of context. It doesn’t matter why it happened. It just matters that it did. Leave a little mystery for yourselves sometimes, guys.
One note in closing: If any of you speak ill of Boyz II Men, I will find you, and I will cut you.
