'Chuck's' Yvonne Strahovski Will Join 'Dexter' As a Mysterious Woman With a Secret

Earlier today, it was announced that former “Chuck” star and noted hard-to-spell-last-name-haver Yvonne Strahovski would be joining the Showtime serial killer drama “Dexter” for a multi-episode arc in the show’s seventh and very necessary season. TV Line has the details:

She will play the role of Hannah McKay, a strong, independent woman with a past that she’s struggled to put behind her. As a turn of events leads Miami Metro Homicide to ask for her help in solving some old cases, Dexter works with her and begins to wonder if there’s more to this woman than she’s professed.

I liked Strahovski on “Chuck,” but I’m having a hard time getting excited about this. I mean, I’m sure(-ish) that the people at “Dexter” plan on rounding out her character a little more before they turn on the cameras, but that is honestly one of the most generic character descriptions I have ever read. “A mysterious woman who comes to town and may have a secret” is sitting on the same shelf as “hooker with a heart of gold,” “a loose cannon detective who plays by his own rules,” and “an adorable wise-cracking child” in the television stock character warehouse. They’re one or two steps away from bringing in a dog who rides a skateboard and wears sunglasses.

Speaking of Yvonne Strahovski and dogs, look what I found on Shutterstock just now. Take note, red carpet people. This is how you do things from now on.
