George R.R. Martin Smashed A Guitar During Comic-Con In Front Of Neil Gaiman

I’m tempted to leave you with simply the headline and the video, as it kind of speaks for itself, but in honor of Mr. Martin, I’ll write 75,000 words about it. Last year, a video by comedy musical duo Paul & Storm called “Write Like the Wind” went viral; it was about Martin taking his dear, sweet time writing the next Game of Thrones book.

As for Gaiman got involved, back in 2009, according to BuzzFeed, a fan named Gareth wrote to the Coraline author on “if George R.R. Martin owed it to his fans to write faster.” His response:

Look, this may not be palatable, Gareth, and I keep trying to come up with a better way to put it, but the simplicity of things, at least from my perspective is this: George R.R. Martin is not your bitch.

This is a useful thing to know, perhaps a useful thing to point out when you find yourself thinking that possibly George is, indeed, your bitch, and should be out there typing what you want to read right now.

People are not machines. Writers and artists aren’t machines. (Via)

The four of them converged in San Diego last night, where Martin proceeded to do this.

I like to pretend the guitar is Joffrey.
