The Golden Globes ceremoniously praises Hollywood’s elite, but with a caveat: The nominees, guests and presenters are almost always human. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to wrangle the animals that star in the best movies of the year without the stage at the Beverly Hilton getting scratched or pooped on. But tonight was different.
Jonah Hill was supposed to present with Channing Tatum, but he had to drop out on short notice. Luckily, the bear that mangled Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant was able to make an appearance and steal the show like he almost stole the life from Leo.
It’s rare when such a powerhouse performer is able to make an appearance amidst his co-stars, and especially when he has no lines in a movie. Not since Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs has an antagonist made such an impact with so little screen time…
But still – no Jonah Hill. The man who was supposed to be shoulder to shoulder with Channing Tatum on stage, trading quips and banter or giving it back to Ricky Gervais. Alas, that could never come to fruition. It’s a shame the star of True Story and Wolf of Wall Street couldn’t be there.
