We know Finn Jones will be playing Danny Rand in Marvel’s upcoming Iron Fist Netflix series. Now we know which actors and actresses are going to play the family that will be the source of his life’s more dramatic moments.
The Meachum family, led by ruthless tycoon Harold Meachum, share a deep connection with the Rand family. Harold Meachum was partners with Danny Rand’s father Wendell, but conspires to kill him and his family while they’re on a mountain climbing expedition near the city of K’un-Lun. So, ultimately, it’s Harold Meachum who’s responsible for Danny being exiled and becoming Iron Fist. Harold Meachum will be played by David Wenham, who you might remember as Faramir from the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
But we have more Meachums for you! Ward Meachum was Harold’s scheming brother in the comics, but will apparently be his son on the TV show. Presumably he’ll still be just as treacherous. Ward will be played by Tom Pelphrey (Guiding Light, Banshee).
Finally, but perhaps most importantly, we have Joy Meachum. Joy starts out as a villain like the rest of her family, but eventually becomes an ally of Danny’s. In recent years, there have even been hints of romance between the two in the comics. Joy will be played by Jessica Stroup (The Following).
Iron Fist‘s cast seems to be shaping up nicely. In addition to Finn Jones and our three Meachums, we know Jessica Henwick will be playing Heroes for Hire co-founder Colleen Wing. It’s rumored Iron Fist ally Shang Chi and villain Steel Serpent will also be part of the show. You can see the series starting to take shape – lots of conspiring by the Meachums, likely using Steel Serpent as their agent, perhaps hints of an Iron Fist/Joy Meachum/Colleen Wing love triangle. Sounds like a solid first season.
We still don’t know when exactly season one of Iron Fist will hit Netflix, but with the show’s cast almost in place, we should find out soon.
