SNL is once again set to have another lovely homecoming for Ebersol-era alum Julia Louis-Dreyfus and that means promos, Promos, PROMOS. After all, if Saturday Night Live didn’t run promos, how on earth would you know what night the program airs on and if it’s on tape-delay? Angry mobs would roam the streets in Mango costumes kicking in windows and brutalizing shopkeepers if these things didn’t tumble out ahead of time. Plus, the spots are normally charming and silly which doesn’t hurt.
This week’s batch of SNL promos feature Louis-Dreyfus out for coffee with “Beep” (“it’s like beep, BEEP BEEP”) mega-fan Bobby Moynihan, and aside from the occasional bit of unwanted additive in the upcoming host’s beverage, things go relatively well for the pair. They engage in banter, clear up assorted misunderstandings, and reminisce about the Emmy winner’s unforgettable recurring character “Big Zit Cindy.” Yes, good ol’ Big Zit Cindy finally gets her time back in the spotlight.
The clips (nestled above for your viewing/evaluating pleasure) have a fun back-n-forth glow to them and maybe this week’s go-around will score warmer reviews than Russell Crowe’s appearance. The broadcast marks Louis-Dreyfus’ third appearance as host for the unkillable NBC variety show and Nick Jonas is on-hand to serve as the musical guest.
