This season of The Bachelorette has been one of the most interesting in years, between the casting of a woman of color as this year’s love-seeking lady to some controversy surrounding the contestants. And, of course, Whaboom. In just two episodes, Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay has proven herself to be a compelling heroine, being equal parts charm and no-nonsense. If only there were more dudes in her pool of options that were a little more worthy.
While DeMario may have been kicked out of the house for having a secret (vengeful) girlfriend in Monday’s episode, but he’s looking pretty good in comparison to Lee Garrett, a Nashville singer songwriter who has spent most of his screen time whining and attempting to one up himself with hair height. Well, now he is the latest to fall prey to the evergreen adage “don’t tweet if you ever want to be on TV,” because Garrett has posted some pretty hateful stuff on his Twitter feed.
Gotta love how @BacheloretteABC casts Lee…wonder how @TheRachLindsay feels about it? #TheBachelorette pic.twitter.com/RX6lkGpgyB

I don’t know, you guys. Tweets like “Guys… when is the last time YOU actually saw a pretty feminist? There is a reason for this” and “Hilllary Clinton would be a westernized Kim Jung Un” make me think that Lee might have some problems with women. Plus, likening the NAACP, which champions the civil rights of minorities, to the KKK while you’re trying to woo a woman of color is… also not great.
Again, no one can really know the scrutiny that they will undergo when they hit the public stage, but you should always be careful what you project online. Or you could just not be a misogynistic racist. That might be a better place to start.
