If it seems like news of Hawkman’s casting in The CW’s superhero team-up series Legends of Tomorrow was only yesterday, that’s because it was. Yet this didn’t stop the network from announcing yet another major bit of casting news for its latest DC Comics-based property.
The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday revealed that Danish actor Casper Crump will play the villain Vandal Savage, a “time-traveling DC Comics supervillain” who’s really going to f*ck things up this year for Arrow, Flash and friends. The character is described as an “immortal” who “has spent 6,000 years moving like a virus throughout history — influencing dictators and despots — all to set himself up for world domination.”
While Savage will serve as Legends of Tomorrow‘s main antagonist, he will reveal himself in this season’s Arrow/The Flash crossover episodes first. The storyline that develops will then branch off mid-season for the premiere of Legends, in which Arthur Darvill’s time traveling character Rip Hunter comes back from an apocalyptic future to form the team and fight off Savage.
If you don’t recognize Crump, you’re not alone. The Danish actor is best known for his overseas television work. However, he makes his English-language feature-film debut in 2016’s Tarzan with Alexander Skarsgård.
