After months of hype, DC’s bid to completely take over the CW arrives today in the form of DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow. Unlike the CW’s other DC shows, this is a team effort, gathering a bunch of heroes into a time-hopping team to defeat Vandal Savage. And their first stop? The ’70s!
At this point you’ve probably seen every trailer, so this is more or less where the show’s rubber meets the metaphorical road. Our own Andrew Husband reviewed the show and I agree with his assessment: It’s not breaking the mold of the CW’s superhero shows, although the large cast does set it apart. So if you liked the early seasons of Arrow, or the current season of The Flash, you’ll be in good hands. The upcoming season will be a test of the show’s resilience, though. The previous two shows have built these characters up a bit, but will new audiences respond to them? And can the show find its own identity beyond “Hey, want to watch three nights of superheroes punching stuff?” We’ll find out at 8 p.m. tonight.
I sadly will not be watching tonight, for reasons that will become clear if you follow the Uproxx Snapchat at around 8:45 p.m. EST. So consider this your open thread: We’ll be here to weigh in with some nerdly observations tomorrow.
