Steven Avery’s Ex-Fiancée Calls The ‘Making A Murderer’ Subject ‘A Monster’

(The following contains spoilers from Netflix’s Making A Murderer. If you have not watched the documentary in its entirety, do not read on.)

One of Steve Avery’s biggest supporters is singing a different tune today. Jodi Stachowski, the ex-fiancée of Avery, and the woman who stood by his side for two years (and is seen several times in Making a Murderer), now says he’s a “monster” and “not innocent” in the murder of Teresa Halbach. In an interview with HLN’s Nancy Grace, Stachowski details some of the things that went on during their relationship, some of which are quite disturbing.

Among them:

– On two separate occasions she ate rat poison in an attempt to go to the hospital and get away from him.
– Avery reportedly sent her a letter from prison trying to extort her out of money.
– Coerced her (in some fashion) to make him look good in Making a Murderer.

Stachowski adds that this has been the truth all along and asked the filmmakers (Moira Demos and Laura Ricciardi) to keep her out of the documentary. “It is full of a bunch of lies.”

Fascinating stuff to say the least. Sure, the ebbs and flows of this case have been remarkably bizarre (especially with Avery’s nephew Brendan Dassey), but this might take the cake. Stachowski spoke with Avery almost every day and was arguably his closest confidant before and during the investigation. Jail records indicate that Avery spoke to Stachowski twice on the night Halbach was murdered. If anybody could speak to his state of mind after his initial release from prison, it was her.

Stachowski will appear on HLN’s Nancy Grace, Wednesday at 8 p.m.
