Netflix hasn’t been shy about featuring documentaries advocating for a certain point of view in the past. But two new series pickups will see the streaming service delve right into the heart of American politics, with a documentary series about Flint, MI’s public safety and the Vox media team explaining the various aspects of political life in America.
Flint Town is described as “an intimate look at the state of policing in America” through the lens of the Flint, MI, police department. Flint, MI, has gone, as of this writing, 1,365 days without clean water. And the best case scenario is that it’ll be 2020 before it does get clean water. It’ll be curious to see how even eight episodes of footage can delve into the issues around policing, with this crisis as a backdrop, and we’ll find out March 2nd.
Meanwhile, Vox’s Ezra Klein, best known for his detailed explanations of what’s happening in politics, will be executive-producing a currently untitled show that tackles a different aspect of global politics each episode. According to the Hollywood Reporter, it’ll explore “the big questions” of the day with a variety of experts. Think of it like Mythbusters, except any explosions will be metaphorical. That’ll arrive this summer.
