HBO released new teasers over the weekend for Boardwalk Empire, the final season of Eastbound and Down, their Larry-David-with-a-kooky-beard film Clear History, and Stephen Merchant’s upcoming comedy Hello Ladies. As with all teaser trailers, they tell us varying degrees of nothing about what’s actually going to happen in the finished products. Ranked from most-to-least informative, I suppose I’d go:
- Clear History – Larry David argues with Jon Hamm in a business meeting, looks like a burned-out hippie.
- Hello Ladies – Stephen Merchant is awkward around womenfolk.
- Boardwalk Empire – Nucky does business things, some people get smashed with bottles, other people dance.
- Eastbound and Down – Kenny Powers still enjoys cussing.
I should probably be more excited about this. It’s just that with Game of Thrones ending last night and Mad Men ending in two weeks, it is going to be a looooooong summer until all of these (as well as the final episodes of Breaking Bad) start rolling out in August and September. Now, am I implying that five or six of you should team up and break into HBO’s headquarters under the cover of night, steal all the finished footage you can find, and leak it piece-by-piece over the next month or two? No, I am not implying that, because that would be a crime, and I would never suggest any of you break the law just to keep me entertained*. So I guess we’ll just have to settle for the teasers.
*I was winking when I typed that. You can’t be charged with conspiracy for winking, right?
