In news that will literally make you say “Literally. Amazing,” NBC has made a good decision and picked up Rob Lowe’s new pilot, The Pro.
The Pro stars Lowe as former tennis doubles champion “Big Ben” Bertrahm, whose career flame-out and misguided investments have left him working as the pro at a tennis and golf club, where he tries to hustle and charm his way back into America’s 1%.
Luckily, Lowe is joining quite a team: Todd Holland (The Larry Sanders Show, Malcolm in the Middle, Go On) is set to direct, while the script has been penned by Alex Gregory and Pete Huyck (both writers for King of the Hill and The Late Show with David Letterman), who will also executive produce the 30-minute sitcom.
The possibilities for guest appearances would be huge: Nick Offerman as the John McEnroe-type former champ, Amy Poehler as a grunting Russian, Chris Pratt as, well, anything. Add in Rob Lowe with an Andre Agassi-ish 80’s mullet with short shorts? WE NEED THIS NOW!
Given the pedigree of the writers, producer and the fact that Lowe is riding high off his memorable role on Parks & Rec, we’re safe to assume this will be a laugh-track free show, and to that we say:
