Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje — you may remember him as Mr. Eko from Lost — has signed to play one of the main villains in Thor: The Dark World opening November 8, 2013. This comes three years after Marvel was courting him to play Black Panther, a plan which never materialized. In additional casting news, Kat Dennings will be returning to play Darcy Lewis, supposedly in a larger role in this second movie (more on that later). Everything mentioned from here on out could be considered a spoiler, so fair warning.
Akinnuoye-Agbaje has signed to play Algrim the Strong, AKA Kurse. Variety explains:
Christopher Eccleston will play primary villain Malekith the Accursed, the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim. In the comicbooks, Algrim the Strong was the most powerful of a race of Dark Elves, who is coerced by Malekith to fight Thor. After he’s betrayed by Malekith and injured during a battle, Algrim is healed and transformed into a much more powerful being called Kurse, who is twice as a strong as Thor.
This makes us wonder if The Beyonder will make an appearance and who would play him. (Hopefully Nic Cage, but we say that for everything. Everything.) Here’s another bit of speculation:
Perhaps there’s a chance that we’ll see Dennings providing a human look for The Enchantress. Just… call it a hunch. And an irony, because it was initially rumoured that Dennings might be playing The Enchantress before her role was revealed the last time around. [Bleeding Cool]
We’re hoping that’s true, if for no other reason than it will mean much more Enchantress cosplay in the future.
