Sean Bean Is Blabbing About Jon Snow’s Lineage To Anyone Who Will Listen

Perhaps you remember the thing from last year where Sean Bean loudly and proudly speculated about the lineage of Jon Snow from Game of Thrones. The short version is that bookreaders have long suspected Jon might not actually be Ned Starks son. R + L = J, and so on and so forth. Here’s Bean at Vulture from that interview:

I’ve definitely got some unfinished business that needs to be resolved there. I’m obviously not Jon Snow’s dad. And you need that to be revealed at some point, don’t you? So Bran would kind of be the one having the flashback, and he would see Ned praying, right? And revealing those things? You never know what those guys are going to do with that. It’s got to be something special. But I’m into that. I certainly would be into that. Print that! Give them a nudge. [Laughs.] Hopefully I’ll get a call soon.

Well, the show has been teasing out the theory pretty hard this season, dropping little hints here and there that basically confirm it, so Vulture went back to Bean to see if he had anything else to say about it. Yup, he sure did. Sayeth Bean:

“He’s not my child. He isn’t. That’s what I suspected all along.”

So, there’s that.

The best part of that quote is that Bean said “my child,” not “Ned’s child.” He hasn’t played Ned Stark since 2011, but he’s still out here talking like he’s not only on the show, but in the show. This is wonderful. He’s like six months from showing up in Kit Harington’s driveway and blasting “No Son of Mine” by Genesis out his car’s stereo.
