How does one describe a Sharknado? When Sharknado hit in July of 2013 on SyFy, well, the world wasn’t quite sure what to think of the made-for-television movie that wasn’t just satire, wasn’t just tongue-in-cheek, but downright ridiculous. Literally, the concept was that a tornado full of sharks was terrorizing people. Not even Dave Mustaine imagined a tornado of sharks, he just imagined a Tornado of Souls. Sharknado was exactly what the world of pop culture in a post-irony, postmodern world needed. So when the Sharknado series continued, nobody questioned it, we were all simply complicit in accepting that Sharknado was the irony that we needed, not that we deserved.
It comes as no surprise that come July of this year, we can be expecting Sharknado: The 4th Awakens to hit the airwaves and thrill us with flying sharks and weird celebrity cameos yet again. If you’ve been hungering for more news on Sharknado: The 4th Awakens then today is your lucky day, SlashFilm reports. Why? Because there is a brand new teaser trailer showing what we can hope to be only a few of the more ridiculous moments in a film chock-full of them.
The Las Vegas-themed sequel promises to be just as insane as the previous ones, if this trailer tells us anything. There’s a lot to unpack here, everything from a dude hitting a superman punch off of a wall onto a shark, a male stripper fending off a shark and an Elvis impersonator being an Elvis impersonator. “Viva Las Vegas,” indeed. So sure, while SyFy has been trying to take itself a bit more seriously with series like The Expanse and 12 Monkeys, they’ll never forget to be as ridiculous as they can.
