I feel like whenever anybody asks Katherine Heigl why she’s so difficult to work with or seems ungrateful for the many, many opportunities she’s been given, she reverts to Mr. Jefferson from that episode of South Park. Ignorant! Everyone is just ignorant. Plus as Katherine Heigl herself recently said, her own mother doesn’t think she’s difficult to work with either — so obviously anyone who thinks otherwise is mistaken.
Most of what we’ve had to judge Katherine Heigl for is stuff that’s actually come out of her own mouth. Like when she crapped all over Knocked Up, or refused to accept an Emmy nomination (which she had not yet been given) for Grey’s Anatomy because she didn’t think the material she was presented with was worthy. YOU KNOW, stuff that gets so easily misconstrued by ignorant people.
However in a recent profile with the Hollywood Reporter, Grey’s Anatomy showrunner and Heigl’s former boss Shonda Rhimes just WENT ON RECORD saying what a horrible person Heigl was to work with. Thanks to her time working with Heigl, Rhimes now has a strict “no assholes” policy.
Although her perfectionist tendencies coupled with Scandal’s breakneck story pace can wreak havoc on deadlines — “We’re always behind,” she admits — the operation runs smoothly and the cast is tight-knit. “There are no Heigls in this situation,” she says, choosing her words carefully. She adds later of her “no assholes” policy: “I don’t put up with bullsh*t or nasty people. I don’t have time for it.”
Sign you might be an asshole: Somebody enacts a “no assholes” policy in direct correlation to having worked with you. It don’t take no Jeff Foxworthy type to figure that out.
