When Syfy announced plans to create a series adaptation of 12 Monkeys, there were many questions concerning the show’s potential. However, with more than half the first season now in the books, the series has proven itself worthy of some of love. Given that, and modestly consistent ratings, Syfy has greenlit the show for a second season, albeit with some changes.
From Deadline:
The first season, which is still airing, was run by Natalie Chaidez who has her own series for Syfy, the upcoming Hunters from Universal Cable Prods and Gale Anne Hurd’s Valhalla Productions. She is segueing to that, with Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, who wrote the 12 Monkeys adaptation and served as co-executive producers on Season 1, named executive producers and showrunners. They are expected to bring in a strong No.2.
In the beginning, even though they developed the pilot, Matalas and Fickett were untested entities as showrunners, thus explaining why Syfy was hesitant about making them the lead men creatively from the start. Having now spent a season learning the ropes, though, it makes sense why the network would be moving the show’s creators into its head chair.
