It’s a widely known fact that when Freaks and Geeks premiered during the NBC fall season, it was to little fanfare. Even I admit that I didn’t watch the series when it originally aired, but — come on — I was in college at the time and had other things to do besides watch TV at 8 p.m. on a Friday night, which was the crappy time slot Freaks and Geeks got stuck with.
As Linda Cardellini told Seth Meyers last night, when the cast of Freaks and Geeks were invited to participate in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade a scant two months after the series premiered, no one knew who they were. And New Yorkers, being the gracious gem of a people that they are, booed and heckled the young cast. You know, New York’s smaller neighbor city, Philadelphia, gets a lot of sh*t. We may take the credit for booing Santa Claus, but, to my knowledge, we have never flipped off children.
